1. Patching original Battlezone disk
1. install the game from CD
2. go to http://www.battlezone1.net/downloads/
2. apply 1.4 patch - bzpat14.exe
3. apply large assets patch replace - bzhw16l.zfs
4. apply WindowsNT (XP, Vista...) fix - winets2.dll, msvcp50.dll, anims and cursors
5. add BZ online server - servers.dat
6. install BZ Configuration Utility - lsdbzcfg.exe, to configure render.cfg properly
2. Configuring render
These are the most common render settings. If you want to change something, experiment 1 by 1.

3. Playing The Red Odyssey without a CD
Install Daemon Tools located in folder Extras (.../Battlezone 1998/Extras/RO image and Daemon Tools). Then mount odyssey.iso, located in the same folder.
4. Limiting frame rate at 60 fps
For ATI graphic cards:
Catalyst Control Center - Graphics Settings
3D - All Settings - Wait for vertical refresh - On, unless application specifies.
Display Options - 3D Refresh Rate Override - 60 Hz
For Nvidia:
Nvidia control panel -3D settings - Manage 3D settings, turn ON Vertical sync.
Display - Change resolution - set refresh rate to 60 Hz
5. Playing BZ in LAN (over IPX)?
Vista doesn't have IPX, if you are on XP go into Network Connections - right click on Local Area Connection / Wireless Network Connection - properties - install - protocol - add - IPX.
Also, both PC's have to be a part of the same workgroup (be able to access each others Shared Documents folder). If they are not, go in Network Connections and Set up a home network.
Do that on all computers in LAN.
6. Not "enough" memory issue
"Sorry, there is not enough memory to continue.
Please make sure that you have at least 50MB free on your hard drive and that virtual memory is not disabled."
When you see that message it means you have more than 3GB of RAM, which is confusing BZ. It also means you have 64bit Windows. If you are on Vista or 7, solution for this is simple - run BZ in a compatibility mode for WinXP.
If you are on XP you have to install Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit and make own patch. More about that on the forum.
7. Missing powerups
Sometimes, when the game is lagged out (old or with high ping in the game) new joiners can't see all power ups. It's a normal thing. There are 2 solutions for this problem:
1. Step a side for a minute or two, until other players in the game pick up the powerups for you. After pup is picked up, while you were in the game, you will see every next respawn normally.
2. If you don't wanna wait and you know where the powerup is located, you can shoot few rounds on the place where powerup should be. You will destroy it, although you can't see it and it will soon respawn. After that every next respawn will be normal.
8. Dots............................ when joining or rejoining a game
In 90% when host abandons the game no one is able to join anymore.
But if you are sure that original host is still in the game (and he hasn't banned you), then the game is "old" so it takes longer to create you. You shoud rejoin server, wait for pings in the lobby to show up, then join the game and wait for the host's "Y" to show up in "green" before hitting "launch".
9. Copy-pasting lobby text
BZ lobby has invisible highlight, but everything else works normally. While holding left mouse button, highlight (pretend it's visible) text you need, right click on "highlighted" part and copy-paste it somewhere (URL to your Interent browser for example). If you need the whole text (chat), right click on the lobby, select all, open Notepad (or any similar program) and copy-paste everything into it.
10. 100% loss to others in the lobby, crash when trying to join a game
The issue is in your firewall, but not the one in Windows. It is 3rd party firewall or in most cases the one in your router. Solution is different from model to model, so the best is to post your router model on the forum. Basically, you have to loosen up its firewall, or forward ports.
